happy new year

well ok !!  it's 2018 !!  a new year is underway.
I usually write something thoughtful, but i think this year i'll
just post some appreciative pictures of where i live and work ...
i was looking back through my work photos (which i will slide show soon)
and the nature photos caught my eye over and over again.
i am so lucky to live here even though it was minus16 at 7:00 this morning, and it
is about 8 below outside now ..
as they say, 'you don't like the weather in vermont? just wait a minute.'
my friend cook and i were reminiscing last week while we were indoor golfing about a
time in january in the early 80s where it went from 10 below to the mid 60s in
about 30 hours .. whiplash!

anyway, here's some nature for ya from the 10 acres we call home ..
there is beauty all around us ...

show at the feick arts center poultney, vt

i am participating in another guild of vermont furniture makers show,
this one at the feick gallery at green mountain college in poltney vermont.
we had a good crowd for the opening last friday/
i think there are about a dozen of us participating, maybe more.
the show was curated and arranged by the director christine schultz,
and her husband/assistant marc deloach .. they did a beautiful job,
and the lighting and space there is terrific.
we made that wall piece a few years ago, but i've never seen it lit like that ...
we've got a new claro walnut table for sale there  ...
i think it is about 36 x 44
the president of the college, yukking it up with govf ray finan ..
i've got a few paintings hung there
and our convex, wide view mirror that usually hangs over
trevor's computer that runs the cnc
also available and for sale ... +/- 24" diameter

the sunset on the way up was beautiful and there was a full moon
for the ride home down through the pawlet valley.
check out the show if you are passing through poultney ...

a walk in the woods

2/4/17 ...
nice day saturday, so i took a walk in the woods.
i started at my new 'side' step off the front porch
it's a single stone, about 22" deep,11' long and 7" thick ..
waiting for the frost to go in the spring to set it on stone risers ...
thanks pete!  we love it ...
through the woods to 'the overlook' .. its about 20 minutes out to the west ..
  up the hill

over the hill, looking toward merck forest ..
and up the valley to pawlet
home back through the woods on a different path, past the big red oak tree
i'd gues it's about 48" in diameter
past the neighbors house

past the view of peter's peak ..

home again, home again, jiggity jig ...
checked on the shop ..
and looked out toward stratton and mount snow ... 50 mile view
looks like winter is at least half over
i am guessing the fish are hoping so ...
