black friday sale!

i hope you all had a good turkey day!
it is now black friday so i have a few things to post here,
some pristine, some 'lightly used' and with negotiable price tags ...
this one just in the door on monday this week ...
this is a claro walnut slab desk i made for a show a few years back ...
it didn't sell and went to the local arts center where they used it as a reception desk,
with a price tag .. no luck there, and next it went to a local art gallery, also with a price tag,
but no luck there either .. the 40 or 50% commission for the galleries
i think just made it too tough a sale.  so, i am currently offering it at a
'negotiable, commission free price'
which due to its light use and my current reluctance to
totally refinish the slab top i feel is quite reasonable ..
please call me at 802-379-1478 to discuss this piece.
here are a few more shots ..
it has a nice 24" pencil drawer and a secret compartment ...
a generous +/- 42" x 66" with a steel base by Sam.
available for viewing by appointment at the shop most any time now.

triangular louvers

the week before last, we had a a request for some triangular louvers ...

well, i've made them before.  23 years ago to be exact,
and for my own house!   the problem was, i had to
figure it all out all over again ...
kristian ran a ladder up to the one on the front of the house,
and checked some angles and spaces
and he worked from a cardboard template the
builder supplied for us ..
we framed one up from the cardboard, and took it to the house
for a test drive ... all good!
one full triangle and two halves, one for either side of
a chimney on the other end
the half louvers escaped without being photographed,
but we'll get an onsite photos soon ...
we have three on our house

a live edge table

we delivered this interesting live edge table a few weeks ago

it was made from a bookmatched pair of slabs from berkshire products

the clients decided to use the extra length on the slabs for the base and
i had some spalted maple on hand from a previous project.
the table was 8' long, and the slabs were almost 11'

straighteneing and gluing the pair of 20 " wide
8' slabs was a bit of a wrestling match
but we got it eventually

all in, all done ... the clients were happy and aactually went back to berkshire and
purchased another slab for their breakfast area ... one good deed leads to another

live edge walnut bookcases

we sent some bookcase to the great midwest earlier this month. live edge walnut tops,
fine irion walnut case pieces and edge and center bead fir backs ...

it was a fun project with a long time client ... the bookcases are gonna have a nice view!
we first considered backless cases with metal bracing

but ended up with the nice fir backs
i have had this pair of boards for a long time and this was the
PERFECT project for them .. didn't waste an inch ...
it took a minute to figure out the construction joinery, but since the client was looking
for 'quick and easy' (hah!) we were able to simplify things with cleats and dominos,
some plugged screw holes in the top, and a little strategic glue on assembly
lots of pieces
center shelves are adjustable from 12 to 15

happy new year

well ok !!  it's 2018 !!  a new year is underway.
I usually write something thoughtful, but i think this year i'll
just post some appreciative pictures of where i live and work ...
i was looking back through my work photos (which i will slide show soon)
and the nature photos caught my eye over and over again.
i am so lucky to live here even though it was minus16 at 7:00 this morning, and it
is about 8 below outside now ..
as they say, 'you don't like the weather in vermont? just wait a minute.'
my friend cook and i were reminiscing last week while we were indoor golfing about a
time in january in the early 80s where it went from 10 below to the mid 60s in
about 30 hours .. whiplash!

anyway, here's some nature for ya from the 10 acres we call home ..
there is beauty all around us ...

stART Space

there's a new 'emerging artists' contemporary art gallery in nearby
manchester, vermont .. we have long had high quality, established galleries such as tilting at windmills, the southern vermont art center, and lisa helmholz fine art showcasing very high end, representational art from longstanding local painters.  the ellenbogens hope to encourage a new generation of collectors
whose focus may be on the more contemporary side.
mission statement
a few photos of the gallery, in the former ems store in manchester,
a busy location with lots of parking .. below are some selected works
from the stARTSpace website .. i have not made the website yet as i just joined
the other five founding artists this week.

it's a big commercial space, and it has only been open a week,
but i am excited to be included as i actually consider myself
as a still 'emerging' painter ... below are six works from the last two months ..
and below are four from the spring of this year
and i have also included some paintings i did with my friend horst rodies
that i have blogged about here before ...
and they allowed me to sprinkle in a piece or two of furniture to give the space
a place to perch and read for a moment.

stop in if you are in town.  lots to see.
