some of the other stuff

lots of other stuff went on in january ... we removed two existing
vanities from a late 80s house and we are replacing them with cherry
vanities similar to a cherry bar we made for the client last summer ...
we also had to change the existing plumbing from one sink to two ..

same with this one, which will be about a foot longer
lots of things to consider here ... the curly cherry below is for a mirror over the new vanity

beautiful stuff from irion lumber
and we're all getting older here ... i've been making these coasters for years ..
in fact i just made a 60 for a friend and when i got to his party, there was a 50 i
forgot i made for him 10 years ago ... lots of seventies these day and one one
66 that will be good when malcolm gets to be 99.
and we made the first version of this federal style side table in 2004 ... coming along ...

and we also sent two claro walnut live edge bethlehem steel
consoles to a friend in kansas city .. we finished up the month working on
two bookcases for him that will be leaving on monday or tuesday ..
steel legs by sam ..
american walnut, oil finish ..
we'll put em all together tomorrow ..
lots of pieces  ...
and there was one more project for a surprise birthday present that i can't post yet.
more on that after the fact ..

january was  a good and productive month!

where did it go? second attempt ..

so, here it is the end of january, and i haven't written even one
blog post this month except to wish y'all a happy new year back on the first.
it's not cause were not doing anything, it's more like there is just
too, too much going on here, and i can no longer keep up with writing about all of it ..
here's sort of a summary ..
it started off with slab 80#6 from goodhope hardwoods
that arrived with a chunk of itself missing.
fortunately the adjacent slab #5 was still available and the client needed
a seven foot desk so voila! lemonade from lemons!
80# 5 turned out to be equally spectacular, all 43" x 10 feet of it
couldn't quite get it all in the picture
we got to make some nice steel butterflies to go with the steel base by sam
and sam will be wrapping up the base for the desk this week now that we
have the wiring and the drawer figured out .

butterflies in the table top
 the desk top
base for the desk
the bench base and top below ..
this is just one of about 5 projects we have been working on this month ...
more in a bit
2/1/18
ok , we got the desk together today ..

happy new year

well ok !!  it's 2018 !!  a new year is underway.
I usually write something thoughtful, but i think this year i'll
just post some appreciative pictures of where i live and work ...
i was looking back through my work photos (which i will slide show soon)
and the nature photos caught my eye over and over again.
i am so lucky to live here even though it was minus16 at 7:00 this morning, and it
is about 8 below outside now ..
as they say, 'you don't like the weather in vermont? just wait a minute.'
my friend cook and i were reminiscing last week while we were indoor golfing about a
time in january in the early 80s where it went from 10 below to the mid 60s in
about 30 hours .. whiplash!

anyway, here's some nature for ya from the 10 acres we call home ..
there is beauty all around us ...
